Dental bridges are a very effective way to replace missing teeth. At our dental practice, Best Care Family Dental, our
Jackson Heights dentist, Dr. Mazhar Alhadid, can provide you with dental bridges that are either fixed or removable.
A dental bridge will actually bridge the gap that is created when there is one or more missing teeth. The dental bridge will have crowns on either side of the crowns that will act as the new tooth or teeth. These crowns will be placed over teeth on either side which are called abutment teeth; the new tooth will be suspended in-between these crowns. If not being supported by natural teeth, dental bridges can be supported by dental implants. When a bridge is supported by abutment teeth, the crowns are permanently attached to the abutment teeth, and are not removed. When our Jackson Heights dentist provides a patient with a dental bridge, the dental bridge performs many important functions. It will cosmetically restore the patient’s smile as well as give them the ability to be able to properly chew and speak again. A dental bridge can also help to maintain your face shape. It will also keep adjacent teeth from trying to move over to fill in the gap left by the missing tooth. It generally takes two office visits to get a dental bridge. During the first visit, the abutment teeth are prepared and re-shaped so that there is room for the new crown to be placed over them. Impressions of the teeth will also be taken. At the second visit the previously attached temporary bridge will be removed, and the new permanent bridge will be installed. Patients can also get removable dental bridges which are not permanently attached; they can be readily removed from the patient’s mouth. Removable bridges can attach to natural teeth using metal clasps. There are several different variations available which our dentist will be happy to discuss with you.
